Hunters Stat Priorities At L95:
Get your Crit to at least 25%
Get ur Physical Mastery to at least 50k
Finesse around 20%
This should leave you with around +-13k morale.
As a lot of you know there are more hunters in this game than any other class. Which has lead to us being given a bad name. Huntards generally don't care about others in the group and just wanna show off how much DPS they have. They pull all the agro then die and blame the healers and tanks for not doing there jobs. To be a good hunter you have to understand that yes, dps is the reason your in the group, but being aware of your surrounding and adjusting constantly to situations that arise are key. People think that playing hunters are easy...and they are. However, to be a great hunter its not as easy as you think. We have a lot of useful skills in our arsenal but not everyone takes advantage of them. I'm going to start with the least used skills for hunters.
I am a firm believer that you should NEVER...EVER focus on melee as a hunter. If you want to melee roll a champ. The ONLY reason to use hunter melee skills are for the secondary effects that are applied when used. We have focus regen, Interrupts, stuns and slows when it comes to melee. There is no reason to put melee legacies on an LI. Blindside Crit Rating, Low cut bleed chance and any Melee dmg based legacy is a waste of a legacy slot that can be used to further increase your bow dmg. If you pull agro and the mobs coming towards you, hit it with Dazing Blow and drop some threat by using Beneath Notice so the tank can pick it back up. Also, be vocal about it. If your in a raid and you pull agro, speak up and tell the tank. Its sometimes hard to see when you lose agro as a tank so when the group acts like 12 people playing as 1 vs everyone for themselves its much easier for the tank and the raid as a whole. If you need quick focus use blindside. If you are surrounded by 2+ mobs hit em with Low cut and run away. This will slow them and allow you to get a head start. All of these skills are situational and should not be used as a way to dps. When it comes to your melee LI I find that there are really only 3 maybe 4 must have legacies and the rest can be stat legs.
Best Hunter 1h LI legacies are:
Needful Haste Duration (15% Duration)
Strength Stance Dmg (10% Ranged Damage)
Precision Stance Crit (13% Crit Multiplier)
Merciful Shot Crit Multiplier (10% Cirt Multiplier)
Rain of Arrows Targets (Ill take this once they fix the Rain of Arrows crit reset)
For the rest of the legacies, I use Agi/Vit/Fate legacies.
Now, the bread and butter of the hunters. Bows are better than Crossbows....no i'm kidding. It makes no difference what you pick. What does make a difference is the legacies. I cant tell you how much my heart physically hurts when I see hunters running around with a maxed out 2nd age LI with ranged evade/block rating, power cost and threat ratings, and really anything that doesn't add to dmg. Now let me be clear, for solo put what you want. There are many ways to play hunters. Im talking in a group setting. The power costs legacies make me laugh because IF you do actually run out of power the extra 10% you would have saved if you had the legacy will be consumed with just a few more bow shots making it silly to have. If you need power use Beneath Notice. You actually gain more power from that then you would if you used the -10% legacy. Also the Threat legacies are a joke. If your critting for 20k there is nothing you can do to prevent you from getting agro from that mob. If you have a problem with getting agro you need to adjust your rotation and stances. A dps raid hunters job IS to be a glass cannon. Regardless of what people think. You have healers and a tank to help mitigate some of the bad effects that come with being a glass cannon. Of course there are situations when you may want to stack more morale and crit defense but most of the time its your job to dps hard and keeping it up untill you die. Instead of striving to have a balanced build in a raid its best to try to stay alive as long as you can with the knowledge that your probably gonna die pretty soon so what can I do to put out the most I can. That means pulling everything out of your arsenal to make use of every last drop you can. I keep Beneath Notice on cool down ALL the time. I make use of every Focus pot I can and I try to stay alive by using some melee if I have to (stuns&slows). Not to mention contently dpsing as much as you can (not always as HARD as you can) and doing all this without getting agro and dying. Thats where the hunter can be hard to play and not everyone can pull it off. Everyone can push buttons but learning and using everything you have to maximize dps, surviving, keeping power up and threat down is what separates good hunters from great hunters. So lets say you have a hunter with 16k morale/-10% power cost legs and threat legs and I have a hunter with 13k morale/crit and dmg legs and you have more defense stats and I have more offense stat, and lets say we both live at the end of the raid and neither of us ran out of power. Who do you think put out more dps? Instead of being a lazy hunter and relying on stats to survive. Spec for pure dps and rely on your skill to survive.
Best Legacies for your Ranged LIs are:
Inductions/Focus Bow Crit Multipliers (Increases the dmg of your cirts by 25%.)
Quick shot Crit Rating (When you crit you gain focus & With every crit you lower the CD of upshot and Heart Seeker by -2 sec and with a Devastating by -4sec.)
Induction bow Dmg (No reason has to be given. Get this legacy.)
Quick shot Dmg (You will always be using QS so improving its dmg is a no brainer. x3 QS gets your induction speed lowered and gives you a chance to insta cast Swift Bow in the Red Line)
And for the 6th slot I use an Agility Stat legacy.
You'll notice I did not mention Barbed Arrow Bleed Legacy. That I leave up to you. If you find yourself using it enough to justify the legacy then go right ahead with it. I find myself only using it on bosses. The non elite mobs will die with just a couple shots thus making a bleed effect pretty useless.
Your best option for starting a fight would be to Focus up, unload as much as possible then refill your focus and repeat. Obviously that's a very general statement but that's the gist of it. With red line its good to open a fight with Camouflage, Focus then upshot. If you have Focus pots you can use those as well. One thing not a lot of hunters know about is that there are 10sec buffs you receive when you switch stances. So when you switch to strength stance you receive about 2k more crit rating for 10 sec. What I like to do is switch to Precision stance then Camo/Focus/switch back to Strength stance then unleash the pain.
When it comes to managing threat the best thing most hunters think to do is to stop dps all together. In some cases you may have to. However, a better idea would be to switch to endurance stance and spam quick shot. Which will give you a little heal every time you use QS and lowers your threat but not your dps altogether. Also I've found that using Precision stance in instances does better dps because you're able to cut through more mitigations on the enemy thus deal more dmg. I like to use strength stance when i'm outside of instances because their mitigations are much less and so you can hit them really hard really easily. Basically, switch stances often and when the need arises. Don't just stay in one stance and call it a day. There's a reason the devs put a 10sec buff on each stance. They want us to switch between them often.
Target Assist is your best friend! Please make sure to always stay on the target assist. If you don't know what that is or how to get it, simply open your Social panel "O" and click the raid tab. Then on the bottom check the box. This will give you a window that has a selected player picked by the group leader and the target that the selected person is targeting. So If I am the target assist and I select a mob it will show the mob i've selected and all you have to do is click on the enemy in the little window. If everyone is hitting different targets it makes everything much harder. Tanks have a harder time holding agro, healers have a harder time healing everyone duo to everyone having there own mob and overall dps in the raid gets cut down. When everyone is on the same target the healers only have to worry about the tanks, the tanks only have to worry about that one target everyone is attacking and the mob dies SO much faster because everyone is attack him. Its good practice to always use the Target Assist (TA)
If your looking to Hit like a truck being driven by a bear towing another truck haling a baby T-Rex who just ate King Kong, go red line. You shoot faster and deal higher base dmg than you would in blue line. This is what i currently have spec'd.
I don't use Burn Hot or Heartseeker anymore because the animation for both are to long and the benefits are debatable. Heart seekers damage is a joke and Burn Hot will actually lower your dps consistency. However, those are my opinions.
There are a lot of options for gear. As a dps class I feel that we should always take Agility main stat gear. I do have a Vit set for those special occasions. After you get your Crit to the soft cap of 25%, you wanna focus on mastery then finesse. Once you feel that your setup, you can then look to some more Vit/Raw Morale gear. The new jewelry from the Big Battles are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G for hunters.
Set 1 gives you +10% Induction bow damage
Set 2 gives you +20% crit chance
Set 3 gives you a bubble when you take damage however it is a Vit main stat set and is better suited for the moors.
The two important ones are:
You Should Always Have...
1. Bow Chants Breach Finder (-1900 Ranged Skill Mitigation Modifier)
2. Fire/Light Oils (Fire puts a DoT on the enemy and is better against Humanoids, Light give the mob +5% Miss Chance and is better against Orc Kind.)
3. Focus Potions (+6 Focus and 40% Dev Magnitude for 30 secs on a 3min CD)
4. Scrokens! Scrolls and Tokens. Especially in a raid.
5. Cook Food and Trail Food.
6. Wound/Disease/Fear Pots. (You can cure your own poisons with Purge Poison and make sure you use it on others as well.)
7. Coffee, because why not!
Speaking of run speed boost. Please do not take the Find the Path legacy or the skill trait. They are a waste of points. If you need the legacy then make a lvl 65 3rd age 1h LI and max it out for when you're in towns and such.
I know this was a long read, and if you've gotten this far Thank you very much for taking the time out to explore new options for your Hunter. If you have any questions no matter how small, Please contact me in game or out of game at Lindendir@gmail.com. Lastly, Have fun! This is a game and we all pay our dues in one way or another. Lets have respect for others and their play styles. This guide was a specific build for pure dps. And remember, Skill>Gear.
Almost forgot......this was downloaded from http://www.bbcguild.com/showthread.php?9076-Hunters-Guide-(Post-Helms-Deep)-Red-Line-and-Raid-Setups Thanks for the info.
